Aniak River Sonar Site Overviuew

The Aniak River sonar site provides Alaska Department of Fish and Game fisheries managers with Aniak chum salmon estimates as an early indicator of Kuskowim chum salmon run strength. The Aniak River is a tributary of the Kuskokwim River and major chum spawning ground within the Kuskokwim drainage. ADF&G uses the site’s estimates to help it manage Kuskokwim drainage commercial and subsistence chum salmon fisheries. Chum salmon fishing occurs primarily within the main stem of the Kuskokwim River and in Kuskokwim and Goodnews Bays. Kuskokwim chum salmon support a particularly robust subsistence fishery.
