Area Description

Location

Northwestern Kodiak Island, including the eastern side of the Spiridon Peninsula from Cape Ugat to the South Arm of Uganik Bay. This area also includes the Northeast and South Arms and the lower half of the East Arm of Uganik Bay. See area map (Image file 68 kB).

Topography and Habitat

Grass and cottonwoods flats along the lower elevations. Dense alder on the steep slopes up to the alpine areas that start at 1500'. Area has a large coastline with a number of drainages and small lakes. The cannery of Port O'Brien and the fishing community of Village Islands are also located in this area.

Land Ownership

Primarily Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge lands with some private lands along the coast.
