Area Description

Location

Northeastern Kodiak Island, including western portion on Hidden Basin to Mt. Glottof and South Arm of Ugak Bay. See area map (Image file 107 kB).

Topography and Habitat

Primarily north and east facing slopes from sea level to 4405'. Grass occupying the lower elevations with dense alder and berry bushes on steep slopes up to 1500'. South Ugak Bay drainage is primarily grass with interspersed willow and alder thickets. West of south Ugak Bay has a number of small lakes from 200' in elevation to over 2000'. West of Hidden Basin is extremely rugged country with a number of drainages flowing east into Hidden Basin.

Land Ownership

Some private and municipal lands occupying the south and west sides of Hidden Basin. The State of Alaska manages the rest of this area.

Public Use Cabins

There are commercial lodges within this area, but no public use cabins.
