Collecting Tissue Samples

There are many methods used to capture and collect fish and shellfish for allozyme analysis. Beach seines and gill nets are often used to collect salmon off the spawning beds. Bow and arrow and spears have also been effective although the individual employing these methods needs to compensate for the parallax effect of the water. Specimens are collected from fishing boats and also from shore based processors, after the catch has been landed.
