Also, the recent year’s marine fishing harvest success data can be found by following the link above right, “marine harvest rates”.

Regulations for the Yakutat area and the rest of the state can be found online via the link below "fishing regulations", or hard copies can be obtained at most local tackle and outdoor stores in Alaska.

Freshwater angling

  • Only a small number of steelhead are still in the Situk River
  • Sockeye salmon are now fairly abundant in the lower river holes but few have gone up river
  • Many sockeye are smaller than normal
  • Cutthroat trout are now in summer habitats of small streams near woody debris and in some of the confluence holes at stream intersections
  • Dolly Varden angling has been good in the Situk River especially in the upper sections

Saltwater angling

  • Chinook angling is slow but some large fish have been landed
  • Most Chinook are being hooked up in areas very close to shore
  • Lingcod angling has been excellent for those who look for those fish
  • Lingcod angling has been most productive off of Ocean Cape and out towards Point Manby on the moraine drop offs
  • Halibut angling was also productive again last week with several boats getting limits and some charters using GAF quota for one extra large fish.
  • Rockfish of all species are continually coming in for all anglers who spend some time chasing those fish
