Freshwater angling

 

  • Steelhead numbers in the Situk River have decreased to almost none as most fish have finished spawning and moved out
  • A few schools of Sockeye are reportedly in the lower Situk River holes
  • Some anglers have caught sockeye on the Situk but most fish are not moving up towards the weir yet
  • Sockeye are also reportedly in other streams like East River and Akwe
  • Dolly Varden are still abundant in the middle sections of the Situk River
  • Angling effort is typically low this time of year in the freshwaters of the Yakutat area



Saltwater angling

 

  • Chinook catches picked up a bit last week
  • Chinook were reportedly in very close to shore in many bay coves
  • Halibut angling remains strong
  • Rockfish catches were up some last week
  • Black rockfish were especially abundant in catches this last week
  • Lingcod landings were also up last week for the first time this year
