2017 Hunter Information and Training (HIT) Clinics

The HIT Clinic series offers Alaskans the opportunity to gain new hunting skills or sharpen existing skills. Clinic topics vary year to year and are based on the public's interest. Past clinic topics have included: bear hunting, sheep hunting, trophy skinning, waterfowl hunting, reloading, and bear baiting. Other topics of interest have included field care of big game, survival for hunters, navigation, calling big game, wilderness medicine, rifle marksmanship, and shotgun skills.

These clinics will be advertised in local newspapers, on local radio stations, and with flyers at local sporting stores. You can also contact the Hunter Information & Training Program at (907) 267-2534 or dfg.dwc.hitprogram@alaska.gov for more information about the HIT Clinics.


Bear Hunting
Anchorage

Saturday February 25th from 9:00AM-12:00 PM
Denaina Convention Center (second floor) Anchorage

Bear Hunting and Skinning demonstration by ADFG and Joe Want, retired master guide. Need to know how to properly skin your trophy. Learn how to properly remove the skull, feet, turn lips and ears and flesh the hide in this informative clinic. Brown Bear hunting techniques and strategies will also be discussed.

Sheep Judging and Ageing
Anchorage

Saturday February 25th 2017 from 1:30 PM-4:00PM
Denaina Convention Center (second floor) Anchorage

Sheep Judging and Ageing by Joe Want. Going on a sheep hunt in this fall? Learn proven tips and techniques that will help you judge just how big that ram is before you pull the trigger.

Rifle Cleaning
Fairbanks

Tuesday, March 28th from 6-9pm

Learn everything you need to know to clean your rifle safely. All material will be provided with the course fee. You may bring ONE unloaded, cased rifle to clean. We will have rifles to clean if you do not have one.

Clinic will be limited to 10 participants.

Cost is $20 and pre-registration is required in person at the Fairbanks Alaska Department of Fish & Game office (1300 College Rd, M-F, 8am-5pm). For questions or more information, contact 459-7211 or 459-7375.


Bear Baiting Clinic
Fairbanks

Wednesday, April 6th from 6-9:30pm

After successfully completing this clinic, you will be entered into our database and be eligible to register a bear baiting station. You may also take the online bear baiting clinic at any time. The clinic is held at the Morris Thompson Cultural & Visitors Center. There is no cost and pre-registration is not required. For questions or more information, contact 459-7375 or 459-7211.


Rifle Marksmanship for Hunting
Fairbanks

Tuesday, April 11th from 6-9pm

Learn basic rifle marksmanship. The basic shooting positions, sling use, and the use of shooting sticks will be demonstrated. Students will shoot HIT Program rifles in the indoor shooting range. All materials are included in the course fee.

Clinic will be limited to 10 participants.
