Angling reports in winter (November- February) for the Yakutat area typically focus on steelhead in the Situk River, and Chinook angling in salt waters of Yakutat Bay. Angling for both of these species begins in earnest in early spring (March-April).

Steelhead Update

 

  • River conditions improved over the last week for a time but angling was poor
  • High water flow conditions prevail and water temperature is above average
  • All roads are open for now, road conditions can deteriorate at any time



Ocean Chinook update

 

  • Chinook angling was fair with some good days last week for open water trolling
  • Warmer ocean water temperatures have changed baitfish use patterns
  • Chinook salmon distribution is reportedly spotty
