Situk Steelhead

  • A few fish are still coming into the lower river but for the most part the incoming run is over
  • A fair number of fresh fish came in early last week and have moved up to the mid reaches
  • Many fish have spawned and are moving out
  • High water conditions and then some clear hot weather have scattered the spawners into the shady spots
  • River temperature conditions are good for now
  • Fishing is still fair to good especially on cloudy days

Chinook trolling

  • Chinook catches in the bay have been Ok but spotty
  • Clear calm days made for some effort increases in recent days
  • Most fish have been in the medium to small size range

Halibut and lingcod

  • Halibut angling was good last week
  • Many boats reported limits of medium to large fish
  • Lingcod angling was reportedly slow
  • Lingcod season just opened on May 16

Cutthroat and Dolly Varden

  • Dolly Varden are abundant in the lower and middle sections of the Situk River
  • Some large Dollies are still up by the Confluence with The Old Situk River
  • Cutthroat trout are starting to move out of their spawning streams
  • Cutthroat will stage for a time in the larger holes before moving into the lower stream and estuary areas
  • Both trout and dollies are feeding on steelhead spawn and salmon fry and will take flies or lures that imitate those foods
