Additionally, if you are planning a trip, looking at the archived reports, via the links below, can give anglers some feel for the timing and availability of fish during past years.
Also, the recent year’s marine fishing harvest success data can be found by following the link above right, “marine harvest rates”.
Steelhead
- The Situk River has been impacted by a rain event and is running high
- Angling is still good in the upper sections and in many spots with a boat
- Fish are concentrated up above the 9 mile bridge and in some sections of the middle river
- Steelhead are coming in on every tide in the lower river but high water makes that area tough to fish from shore
Chinook
- Chinook trolling success in salt water has been slow
- Little effort was expended lat week due to rains and wind
- Herring schools in the bay have yet to spawn but have brought in some predators that scare the fish around
- Most successful efforts have been up by Chicago Harbor, or at the south end of Khantaak Island
Dolly Varden and trout
- Dollies are now in large numbers in the Situk River
- The middle sections of the Situk have produced some large Dollies as has the 9 Mile Bridge area.
- Cutthroat trout have now moved into small streams to spawn and will be hard to find for a few weeks
Halibut and rockfish
- Halibut angling has begun and a few fish have been brought in by boats off of the moraine area.
- So far the fish have been on the small side
- No rockfish have been reported as of yet this year
