Petersburg Wildlife Viewing
Downtown Petersburg

photo of Downtown Petersburg area wildlife Keep your eyes open for wildlife in Downtown Petersburg. Sitka black-tailed deer are used to the presence of humans, and close encounters are common during the spring and summer. The Hungry Point Trail and areas around the ballfield are good places to look. Scan the harbors for the splash of playful Steller sea lions. Look for harbor seals in the waters near town, especially at Sandy Beach Park. Bald eagles soar overhead throughout the summer. Watch for sea birds like Barrow’s goldeneyes, harlequin ducks, red-breasted mergansers, common mergansers and surf, common and white winged scoters near town in the winter.
