Cape Newenham — State Game Refuge
Area Overview

Chagvan Bay, the primary feature of the Cape Newenham State Game Refuge, is a shallow estuary with large eelgrass beds located on the shores of the Bering Sea just north of Cape Newenham. The name "Chagvan" means "briskly flowing water" in the local Yupik language, and refers to the rapid tidal action in the bay.

For current land status information, see the Cape Newenham Land Status Map (PDF 934 kB). You may also download the KML file which depicts the refuge area boundary.
