Areas Closed to Hunting

Blind Slough Closed Area

  • Restriction: Closed to all hunting

  • Area Description: Unit 3 Blind Slough Closed Area: the area consists of a strip one-fourth mile wide on each side of Blind Slough, from the hunting closure markers at approximately mile 15.1 to the hunting closure markers at approximately mile 18.4 of the Mitkof Highway, including the waters of Blind Slough between those hunting closure markers

Mitkof Highway Closed Area

  • Restriction: Closed to the taking of big game, except wolves

  • Area Description: Unit 3 in the Petersburg vicinity, a strip one-fourth mile wide on each side of the Mitkof Highway from the Petersburg city limits to the Crystal Lake campground

Petersburg Creek Closed Area

  • Restriction: Closed to the taking of black bears

  • Area Description: Unit 3 the Petersburg Creek drainage on Kupreanof Island

Wrangell Road System Closed Area

  • Restriction: Closed to the taking of big game;

  • Area Description: Unit 3 a strip one-fourth mile wide on each side of the Stikine (Zimovia) Highway from the Wrangell city limits to the Tongass National Forest Boundary

Controlled Use Areas

Southern Southeast Islands Controlled Use Area

  • Restriction: Closed to the use of any motorized land vehicle for black bear hunting from in Unit 2 from Sept 1-Oct 31 and Unit 3 from Sept 1-Spt 30. However, this prohibition does not apply to the transportation of black bear hunters, their hunting gear, or parts of black bears directly to or from publicly owned airports, the Alaska State Ferry terminals, commercial lodging, department-designated boat launches, or US Forest Service Cabins at Staney Creek and Twelve Mile Arm if you are the registered guest(s)

  • Area Description: Southern Southeast Islands Controlled Use Area: the area consists of all of Units 2; and Unit 3, that portion including Kupreanof, Mitkof and Wrangell Islands.

Petersburg Management Area

  • Restriction: Open to hunting by bow and arrow only

  • Area Description: Petersburg Management Area: the area consists of that portion of Unit 3, Mitkof Island, north and west of a line from Frederick Point to the highest point in Section 8, T59S, R90E; to the highest point in Section 7, T59S, R80E; to the highest point in Section 13, T59S, R79E; to the highest point in Section 23,T59S, R79E; then due south to the Petersburg city boundary; at least one-quarter mile from any airport property, dwellings, businesses, highways, roads or streets within the corporate city limits
