Haines king salmon trolling

Description

In May and June, Haines anglers troll primarily in Chilkat Inlet, targeting Chilkat River kings. Later in the summer, anglers troll the waters of Chilkoot Inlet, Lutak Inlet, and Taiya Inlet for both wild kings and hatchery-origin kings.

Tackle

Many king salmon anglers use herring for bait, along with a flasher or dodger and a downrigger. Some anglers use artificial lures, including spinners, hoochies, and spoons.

Getting There

Letnikof Cove boat ramp and dock provides access to Chilkat Inlet. The downtown Haines small boat harbor provides access to Chilkoot Inlet, Lutak Inlet, and Taiya Inlet.
