Freshwater Angling Update

Situk River- The Situk River coho run is starting to wind down a bit. There are still some fish entering the lower river but most have moved up river and are staged in the larger holes waiting to spawn. Many of the holes in the upper half of the river before 9 mile bridge are very full of red fish.

Dolly Varden have begun to move into spawning areas also. They will be in the Old Situk River and in shallow stretches near the middle of the Situk River. Dollies will also be feeding extensively in coho spawning areas through the fall season.

Foreland streams- Effort has fallen some on the more remote streams on the eastern forelands and west of Yakutat. These streams are still producing coho, but weather has hampered getting a flight out to the streams. Italio and Akwe are still producing coho, as is the East River.

Tsiu River fishing is still very good. The river has changed considerably this year and most anglers are fishing down on the lower end of that stream.

Marine Angling

Marine angling is slowing. Coho are starting to move into local streams. Halibut angling is also slowing as the fish move out of the inner bay and move out to deeper water.

Halibut can still be had if the weather allows and anglers move around untill they find some fish.

Regulations require all chartered anglers to use a deepwater release device if they release non pelagic rockfish.
