Freshwater Angling Update

Situk River- The Situk river coho fishery is still strong and many fish are now up in the upper sections of the river. Most of the up river fish are red but have not yet started to spawn. Lower river anglers are finding that the high waters are causing fish to move through quickly. The holes ~ 1 mile up are where the coho are first starting to pause this year, and then move up. Fresh fish are as far up as the middle cabins in good numbers.

Dolly Varden are abundant in the mid sections of the river. Most pinks and Chinook have completed spawning.

Foreland streams-

The eastern streams are starting to pick up and have had good runs of fresh fish this last week. Akwe, and Italio rivers are especially good right now.

Tsiu River
The Tsiu River is extremely high but has been very productive this year, fish are all over the lower river area and up into the lake.

Marine Angling

Salt water coho angling effort has slowed a bit as the weather has been quite nasty. Coho are now in by the small creeks in the bay, but many fish are now moving up into those streams as per the high water.

Halibut angling is starting to slow as is normal for the season. Halibut can still be had on into late fall in Yakutat but the weather progressively gets worse into late September and October limiting easy access to the fish.

Regulations require all chartered anglers to use a deepwater release device if they release non pelagic rockfish.
