Freshwater Angling

Situk River- Situk river sockeye angling has continued to be strong. Daily limits will be raised to 6 sockeye per day on Thursday the 17th. Over 53,000 sockeye have passed the Situk weir. Sockeye angling is good clear up to Situk Lake. Large schools are pooled up at the Lake outflow. Fish are moving quickly when we get rains and slowing when water drops and gets warm.

Pink salmon are beginning to show up in the Situk River also. Some pinks are already up to 9 mile bridge.

Foreland streams- Sockeye are in at the Italio and Akwe rivers and in the Lost River system. King salmon angling in the streams east of the Situk has begun to slow. A few Chums are also in the eastern streams.

Marine Angling

Coho salmon angling in salt water is beginning to improve. Anglers are trolling for coho out in the open bay. Expect that the coho will also move into small bay coves later in the month, and into August.

Lingcod and halibut angling remains good. A halibut over 300 lbs was landed last week.

Black rockfish have been a popular and productive target in recent weeks. Anglers are looking for fish in mid-water with fish finders, and dropping jigs for some good catches.

Regulations require all chartered anglers to use a deepwater release device if they release non pelagic rockfish.
