Freshwater Angling Update

Situk River- Situk river pink salmon counts are ~ 30,000 and the sockeye salmon run is still going. Sockeye numbers have tapered off a bit but over 100,000 sockeye have passed the weir.

River conditions are getting back towards normal with the recent rains, but flows still drop fast after rains cease. The Situk weir was pulled on Wednesday 8-6.

A few coho salmon are in the lower end of the river. These fish come in with the high tides mixed in with the pink salmon. Coho angling should pick up in the coming weeks.

Foreland streams- Lost river system has shown of few early coho. The streams to the east of the Situk will typically get coho a week so later.

Pink salmon are also in the Lost River and other smaller foreland streams.

Marine Angling

Chinook salmon angling took a good turn last week and produced some nice late season kings to bay anglers.

Coho angling is picking up nicely with several boats getting limits on jigs and spoons.

Halibut catch rates are above average for this time of year. Rockfish and lingcod angling have also been good. Effort for all groundfish species will begin to decrease in coming weeks as the fall weather sets in.

Regulations require all chartered anglers to use a deepwater release device if they release non pelagic rockfish.
