Steelhead Angling Update
The river is in good shape but low and cold. All roads to the river are open. A few steelhead are scattered out along the mid sections of the river and some are showing up above 9 Mile Bridge. A few fish have reportedly been caught in the mid-sections of the river, but none upstream, or at the lower end.
Eulachon have begun to run in the Lower River. Sea lions attracted to those fish may scare off the steelhead for now.
Winter Fishing reports will be intermittent and will be updated as conditions improve. Weekly updates will resume in early spring when spring steelhead begin to show in the Situk River.
Marine angling in winter
Marine angling harvest information and best times to fish can be found at the Marine Harvest Rate link in the upper right of this report.
Winter Chinook angling can generally be fair in Yakutat Bay when weather allows. Halibut angling improves with spring temperatures in early spring.
Regulations require all chartered anglers to use a deepwater release device if they release non pelagic rockfish.
