Freshwater Angling Update

Situk River- The Situk steelhead run is beginning to draw down. There are still many fish in the last few holes of the river but all of these are post spawn fish. Very few have gone up in the last weeks or so. Water conditions remain very low and the outmigration of steelhead appears to be slower than normal but consistent.

Dolly Varden in the lower river have also thinned out a bit but are still common in some pockets throughout the river.

A few sockeye have gone up through the Situk weir but that run has not yet started and will likely not start in earnest until mid June.

East River- is producing some good catches of king salmon and some are reportedly in the Akwe River.

Marine Angling

Halibut angling has been good. Anglers are now getting good sized fish close to town in the local bays. The normal spots out farther in Yakutat Bay have produced consistent limits and a few large fish around 200 lbs.

Lingcod angling started on the 16th for the year and has been slow.

King salmon angling slowed a bit last week but has still been productive in Sawmill Cove and Redfield Cove.

Regulations require all chartered anglers to use a deepwater release device if they release non pelagic rockfish.
