2014 angling regulation booklets can be found at area vendors, local offices, and from the link found under Fishing Information on the left of this page.

Freshwater Angling Update

Situk River – Steelhead have moved into all sections of the river. New shots of fresh fish enter with every high tide now. River conditions are still a little low but picks up to average flows when we get some rain. River temperatures have been above average for most of the spring.

Anglers are reporting good numbers of Dolly Varden in the Situk River as well, and a few in some other small streams in the area. Large numbers of salmon fry are moving out of the Situk River and attracting these predatory fish.

Cutthroat trout have moved into some sections of the smaller creeks on the forelands.

The eulachon spawn is still occurring in the Situk River but carcasses are starting to pile up so it may be near its end.

Marine Angling Update

Marine angling harvest information and best times to fish can be found at the Marine Harvest Rate link in the upper right of this report.

Halibut angling improves with spring temperatures in early spring. Anglers are just now beginning to look for halibut in Yakutat Bay. Very little effort has occurred for halibut.

Winter Chinook angling can generally be good in Yakutat Bay when weather allows.

Chinook abundance in SE Alaskan oceans waters is reportedly higher this year than ever.

All Chinook salmon must be 28 inches or larger to retain while sport angling.
Resident anglers can retain 3 Chinook salmon per day in 2014.
Nonresident anglers can retain 1 Chinook salmon per day in 2014, except that in May and June Nonresident anglers can retain 2 Chinook salmon per day. Non-resident anglers have a yearly limit of 6 Chinook salmon in 2014 and all harvested Chinook salmon must be marked down on your harvest record.

Regulations require all chartered anglers to use a deepwater release device if they release non pelagic rockfish.
