Freshwater Angling Update

Situk River- The Situk coho salmon run is off to a good start. Recent high water flows have subsided and the river is fishable from all angles. High flows have also spread the early fish throughout the system. Coho are bright clear up to 9 mile bridge and schools of bright fish come into the lower river on every tide. Jigs and spinners of the red or chartreuse variety seem to be the favorite lure this year.

Foreland streams- All foreland streams now have coho salmon in good numbers. Akwe and Italio are getting good pulses on the tides and the East has coho throughout the system. Some of the smaller foreland streams will peak likely in the next weeks.

The Lost River system also started to get good numbers of coho late this week. Fish are up past the Lost River rd. bridge.

The Tsiu River is very good for Coho right now. The river has shortened this year due to it breaking through the dunes in a different route but angling is very prodcutive. All lodges report good angling even in high water conditions.

Marine Angling

Marine Angling for coho salmon has been great this last week. Earlier bad weather days have passed and some good trolling for coho has occurred out in Monti Bay and at the mouth of Yakutat Bay. Coho have also begun to build up in stream mouth areas making shore casting possible in Ankau Lagoon and in all Lagoons of Yakutat Bay.

Halibut angling remains good. Expect that effort for that species will begin to lessen as the fall progresses.

Lingcod angling is still good for those looking to get that species.

Regulations require all chartered anglers to use a deepwater release device if they release non pelagic rockfish.
