Freshwater Angling Update

Situk River – The steelhead run in the Situk River is still moving up the river. Significant spawning has occurred and some fish are just now beginning to move out. Anglers are having the best luck in the upper sections of the river. Float anglers have been finding pockets of fish scattered throughout the drainage.

Dolly Varden are also very abundant now in the lower sections of the river. Pink salmon fry heading out are attracting dollies.

Water flow conditions are still very low and Temps are high. The best angling is in early morning.

Marine Angling Update

Marine angling harvest information and best times to fish can be found at the Marine Harvest Rate link in the upper right of this report.

Chinook angling is picking up in the salt water areas around Yakutat. Trollers are getting fish in the inner bay and around the islands. Several large fish have been caught.

Chinook abundance is reportedly higher this year than ever.
All Chinook salmon must be 28 inches or larger to retain while sport angling.
Resident anglers can retain 3 Chinook salmon per day in 2014.
Nonresident anglers can retain 1 Chinook salmon per day in 2014, except that in May and June Nonresident anglers can retain 2 Chinook salmon per day. Non-resident anglers have a yearly limit of 6 Chinook salmon in 2014 and all harvested Chinook salmon must be marked down on your harvest record.

Halibut anglers are getting limits of fish in the waters at the mouth of the bay. Many medium sized fish are coming in and a few large ones.

Nice hauls of black rockfish are also coming in to anglers that  look for those fish.

Regulations require all chartered anglers to use a deepwater release device if they release non pelagic rockfish.
