Freshwater Angling Update

Situk River- The Situk River received a big storm surge during the mid week. Water flow is very high for now, but dropping fast. Coho have moved into the river in good numbers and are being found even in the high water in the eddy areas and clear tributary mouths.

Sockeye have basically ceased entering the river and are now spawning and or dying off along with pink salmon.

Dolly Varden fishing is excellent in the spawning fish areas.

Resident rainbow trout fishing has also been better than average this year on the Situk and many of these fish have descended down to the 9 mile bridge area.

Foreland streams-
Most foreland streams blew up with the recent rains and resulting high water. Smaller streams like Tawah Creek and Italio River will drop quicker than the larger streams.

Coho are in strong on Lost River Drainage and a few are found in the eastern foerland streams also.

Larger cutthroat trout are starting to show up in most small streams on the forelands

Marine Angling

Coho angling is picking up in salt waters when the weather allows. Chinook angling success has slowed to almost a stop as is typical for thus time of year. Coho are starting to pool up near stream mouths in Yakutat Bay.

Halibut angling and angling for other groundfish species remains good to excellent this year.

Pink salmon abundance has not been real high this year in salt waters.

Regulations require all chartered anglers to use a deepwater release device if they release non pelagic rockfish.
