2015 Alaska Fisheries Enhancement Report

(Juneau) — The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) announces release of the 2015 Alaska Fisheries Enhancement Report, which documents salmon hatchery production in the state.

In 2015, Alaska salmon hatcheries contributed an estimated 93 million fish to the commercial fishery, which made up a third of the statewide commercial salmon harvest of 264 million fish. The statewide exvessel value of the commercial hatchery harvest was $125 million, and comprised an estimated 30% of the exvessel value of the statewide salmon harvest. The first wholesale value of the commercial hatchery harvest was about $350 million.

2015 saw the second largest commercial salmon harvest in state history, with a 264 million fish take. This catch was comprised of the third largest total ever for wild salmon stocks (170 million fish) and the second largest total for hatchery-produced salmon stocks (93 million fish). An additional 275,000 hatchery-produced salmon, trout, char and grayling were harvested by sport, personal use and subsistence users.
