Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae)

Humpback whales formerly were subjected to heavy commercial harvest, primarily for oil; a very small harvest for local use still occurs in the Lesser Antilles. Subsistence hunting no longer occurs. Many people enjoy watching whales, and whale watching is an important and lucrative aspect of Alask's tourism industry.
