Requested Tracking Map
During the last 10 days we have received locations for 2 bearded and 4 spotted seals. After moving north, from the Bering Sea and through Bering Strait, into the Chukchi Sea last week, spotted seal SS18-01-M (orange circle), has moved along the north coast of Russia and into the Amguyema River, between Vankarem and Cape Schmidt. Spotted seal SS18-03-F (teal circle) is still in the central Chukchi Sea, west of Point Lay. The remaining two spotted seals are in the Bering Sea, generally between the mouth of the Yukon River and Scammon Bay. The two bearded seals are near sea ice in the northern Chukchi and southern Beaufort seas. Sea ice data are courtesy of the U.S. National Ice Center, dated 13 August (http://www.natice.noaa.gov/products/daily_products.html).
