Requested Tracking Map
During the last 10 days we have received locations for 2 bearded and 4 spotted seals. The two bearded seals are near sea ice in the northern Chukchi and southern Beaufort Seas. Spotted seal SS18-03-F (teal circle), recently tagged near Utqiaġvik, has continued to move south and west into the central Chukchi Sea. Spotted seal SS18-01-M (orange circle), has moved north, from the Bering Sea and through Bering Strait, into the Chukchi Sea, and is currently north of the Chukotka Peninsula, Russia. The remaining two spotted seals are in the Bering Sea, generally between the mouth of the Yukon River and Scammon Bay. Sea ice data are courtesy of the U.S. National Ice Center, dated 6 August (http://www.natice.noaa.gov/products/daily_products.html).
