Ice Seal Tracking Maps Archive

During the last fourteen days we have received transmissions from 4 ringed and 1 bearded seal (yellow track). Seals are located in the Chukchi and Beaufort seas; one ringed seal has traveled west of Barrow toward Kaktovik. An updated map showing recent movements is attached. Sea ice data are courtesy of the U.S. National Ice Center, dated 28 July (http://www.natice.noaa.gov/index.html). Seals were tagged in Kotzebue Sound on 18 and 19 June in collaboration with the Native Village of Kotzebue. Funding for tagging has been provided by BOEM.
