
Nelson River Weir

Nelson River weir (Sapsuk) is located about midway between the head of Nelson Lagoon and Sapsuk Lake, 55° 41' N. latitude, 161° 01' W. longitude and is about 130 feet in length and about 2 to 3 feet in depth. Salmon were first counted past a tower project in 1962 and operated annually by ADF&G through 1988. In 1989, ADF&G replaced the counting tower with a weir and have operated the weir annually by two employees from late May through late July.
