Reporting Requirements

  • Successful Hunters
    • If successful, report to ADF&G in Kodiak within 15 days of harvest.
    • Specimens Required: Present skull (unfrozen and removed from skin) and hide (with claws and evidence of sex attached) for sealing prior to leaving Unit 8 and within 30 days of harvest.
  • Unsuccessful Hunters
    If unsuccessful, report online at hunt.alaska.gov, in person, or by phone to ADF&G within 15 days after leaving the hunt area.
  • Internet Reporting
    If you hunted unsuccessfully or did not hunt, you may report online at http://hunt.alaska.gov

Additional Requirements and Information

  • ALL HUNTERS; * Obtain their permits by appearing in person at the ADF&G office in Kodiak prior to going into the field. Permits for the fall hunt will be issued beginning on October 2 and for the spring hunt beginning on March 4. * Will be restricted to one consecutive 15-day hunting period to be selected when picking up their permit. * Must present a valid Alaska hunting license, a brown/grizzly bear locking tag, and Big Game Tag Record. * Permits may be issued at the Kodiak ADF&G office (weekdays except holidays) 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. * The bag limit is one bear every four regulatory years, sows accompanied by cubs are protected and can not be harvested. *If a bear is wounded no other bear can be pursued in GMU 8 for the remainder of the regulatory year. * If you receive a brown/grizzly bear drawing permit for the fall season you are ineligible to receive another permit for the spring season.
