As the 2015 angling season begins to wind down fishing reports will be less frequent. Angling reports in winter for the Yakutat area typically focus on steelhead in the Situk River, and Chinook angling in salt waters of Yakutat Bay.

Steelhead Update

  • Steelhead angling was reportedly good early last week in the upper sections of the Situk River
  • High waters returned with rain at the end of the week, and the river is likely unfishable now for a few days, at least
  • Water conditions have been warmer than average this season and good for angling
  • Road conditions are all open and fair
  • Resident rainbow trout have also been caught in some sections of the Situk, near and below 9 mile bridge.
