Marine fishing

Chinook anglers found a bit better angling for Chinook in Yakutat Bay last week. Some boats got quick limits. Most Chinook have lately been in the medium to large size range. Sockeye salmon have also moved into the bay, and are jumping out in open water, and in the coves.

Black rockfish
catches started up fast and were good all last week. Halibut angling remains good. More halibut have come in lately to anglers out in the open bay by the outer moraines.

Lingcod angling opened up last week, but has been slow. Lingocd anglers are finding what fish they have out on rock jetties in 100 or so feet of water.

Freshwater Fishing

Dolly Varden are hyper abundant in the mid and upper Situk River areas. Dollies have also moved into areas by stream mouths in the Yakutat Bay.

Situk Steelhead Update

Steelhead angling remains good although most all of the fish are in spawning mode now, or heading out. Some of the upper river stretches are starting to thin out of fish as the run begins to fall back to the inlet. Only a few new fish are entering the lower river.
