As the 2015 angling season begins to wind down fishing reports will be less frequent. Reports will be focused on steelhead in the Situk River and Chinook angling in salt waters of Yakutat Bay.

Marine fishing in winter

  • Chinook salmon angling is reportedly slow for now. Expect that winter troll Chinook angling will pick up in the late fall and winter
  • As usual weather conditions will often dictate success

 Freshwater fishing in fall and winter

  • Sport fishing opportunity in fall and winter in Yakutat is focused primarily on winter steelhead in the Situk River. Steelhead updates will be posted as conditions change over the winter
  • A few steelhead have been spotted in the Situk River, and a few early fish have reportedly been caught
  • Early steelhead are in the middle river sections and mixed in with spawning coho
  • Travel on the Yakutat raod system is always difficult in winter, and anglers may not be able to reach the river
