Marine Fishing

Salt water harvest information is available via the link above right; “Marine Harvest Rates”.

  • Halibut angling was good around the days of bad weather last week. Most fish are in the lage size range.
  • Some green eye dogfish are starting to get caught while attempting to find halibut.
  • Rockfish angling was more popular last week with a variety of species coming in to the anglers who looked for them.
  • Coho angling is picking up but most of these fish are still incidental to anglers fishing for other species. Expect that coho angling will peak in the coming weeks.
  • Chinook angling is still fair. Anglers can get a few fish by trolling, although pink salmon are starting to make a show in the Bay making the angling harder for Chinook.
  • Lingcod angling remains steady and fair. Anglers have found fish both bottom fishing, and while trolling.

Freshwater Fishing

  • High water conditions developed on friday last week but flows are now receding.
  • Sockeye angling remains hot on the Situk. Bag limits were raised on the Situk River to 6 sockeye per day last week due to high abundance through the weir. Over 65,000 fish are past as of 7-19-15.
  • Pink salmon are starting to enter local rivers. Anglers have caught many on the Situk and on the Akwe-Italio system.
  • A few early coho have also been reported on the Situk.
  • Cutthroat trout angling was good last week up until the water rose for the weekend. The Trout will start to pool up behind spawning sockeye wherever they are found.
  • Alsek and East river catches have been slow this last week.
