Marine Fishing

Summerized salt water harvest information is available via the link above right; “Marine Harvest Rates”.

  • Halibut angling remains excellent, and the warm calm weather has boosted the effort and success further.
  • Lingcod angling remains strong in Yakutat Bay as well. Several boats have targeted this species in recent days, and brought back some large fish.
  • Many rockfish and a few coho salmon were also caught last week to round out the catches.
  • Sockeye salmon are reportedly abundant out on the outer bay mouth area.

Freshwater Fishing

  • Sockeye angling is picking up in the eastern streams of the Yakutat area. Akwe, East and Italio are now reporting fair to good harvests.
  • Sockeye angling is fair on the Situk River, but low water has made the fish a bit spooky.
  • Chinook salmon angling on the eastern foreland rivers is reportedly slow.
  • Cutthroat trout are concentrated in the larger holes of most small streams as the flow rates are down and the water is warm. These fish will seek out deep pools to stay cool during low water conditions through the hotter days.
