Marine fishing

  • Chinook salmon angling remains slow but anglers are getting some fish at each trip, if they put the time in. Schools seem to be scattered around the inner bay in close to shore.
  • Lingcod anglers had some good angling for these fish again this last week. Most fish are in the medium size range, with some larger fish less frequently.
  • Halibut anglers are still getting limits most days. Large fish continue to come into the docks with several over 150 lbs. recently.
  • Rockfish angling for all species has been very good. Most boats bring in a collection each day, with most being black rockfish (pelagic species), and many being quillback (non pelagic species).

Freshwater Fishing

  • Sockeye salmon angling is improving in the Situk River. Angling effort is picking up, but float anglers are still rare as most fish are in the lower river.
  • Sockeye salmon are also starting to show in the East River and in Italio River.
  • Dolly Varden anglers have found dollies in pockets up in the middle Situk River sections. These fish will be found in sockeye spawning sites all summer.
  • Chinook salmon angling in the East and Akwe rivers is reportedly slow. Warm water temps may keep these fish in the estuary untill we get some good rains.
