Invasive Species — European Starling (Sturnus vulgaris)
Distribution

Range

Starlings are native to Eurasia, found across Europe, Russia, and the Middle East. After their introduction to the Americas, they can now be found year-round across most of North America except for the far North, and winter in parts of Mexico and the Caribbean.

Habitat Preference

Starlings prefer open habitat with short or grazed fields, which is why they tend to be found in disturbed and developed habitat in urban areas. They will build a nest in any cavity they can find, this includes cliffs and burrows, nest boxes, roofs and buildings, street lights, woodpecker holes, etc.
