Southwestern Alaska
Wildlife Viewing

The windswept boundaries of Southwest Alaska comprise some of the richest fishing grounds and marine mammal habitats in the world. In the waters of the Bering Sea, blustery waves are whipped into tempests: early Alaskans called the region “Cradle of the Storms.” Onshore, volcanic and seismic convulsions rearrange the landscape. Enormous brown bears patrol the shorelines. In the midst of this terrible beauty, whales and walrus trawl the sea and millions of migrating birds darken the sky.
