Bear River Weir

Bear River weir is located about 200 yards downstream from Bear Lake, 56° 00' N. latitude, 160° 15' W. longitude and is about 175 feet in length and varies from 2 to 4 feet in depth. A weir was first constructed in 1929 and operated annually by the federal government through 1932 and from 1953 through 1960; since 1986 the weir has been operated by two ADF&G employees from late May through late August. From 1961 through 1985, state employees enumerated salmon using a partial weir and a counting tower.
