Waterfowl Hunting – Permit Requirements

While most parts of Alaska do not require a permit to hunt waterfowl, there are a few areas that do. See below for special permit requirements for hunting waterfowl. Also, most waterfowl hunters require a license, State and Federal duck stamps, as well as proof of Harvest Information Program (HIP) enrollment. Mendenhall Wetlands Waterfowl Permit (WU001)

This permit is required to hunt waterfowl including snipes and cranes on the Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge. Basic Hunter Education certification is also required to participate in this hunt. The permit is available at the Douglas Fish and Game office, and is available online during the hunting season. For more information contact the Fish and Game office in Douglas at 465-4265.

Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge Waterfowl/Small Game Permit (WU002)

This permit is required to hunt waterfowl and small game within the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge. This permit is available at the Anchorage Fish and Game office, and is also available online during the small game and waterfowl hunting seasons. Canada Geese on Middleton Island in Unit 6

A registration permit is required to hunt Canada geese on Middleton Island in Unit 6. The season is open from September 28 – December 16 with a limit of 1 bird per day and 1 bird in possession. The permit is available at the Fish and Game office in Cordova and Anchorage. For more information contact the Fish and Game office in Cordova at 424-3215 or Anchorage at 267-2257.
