Reporting Requirements

  • Successful Hunters
    • Must return the completed hunt report and the lower front teeth to ADF&G in Douglas or Yakutat, or USFS in Yakutat, within 24 hours of kill (west of Dangerous River) or 3 days of kill (east of Dangerous R.).
    • Specimens Required: Lower front teeth (on 5-inch section of jaw)
  • Unsuccessful Hunters
    Must return the completed hunt report to ADF&G, or report online at hunt.alaska.gov, within 15 days of close of season.
  • Internet Reporting
    If you hunted unsuccessfully or did not hunt, you may report online at http://hunt.alaska.gov

Hunting Conditions

HUNT AREA (RM061): Unit 5A, except Nunatak Bench.

SEASON DATES:
Unit 5A residents (Federal Subsistence Season):
East of the Dangerous River: September 16 - November 15
West of the Dangerous River: October 8 - November 15
NOTE: Prior to October 15, subsistence hunters can only hunt on Federal lands.
All other hunters:
East of the Dangerous River: October 1 - November 15
West of the Dangerous River:
Non-Federal lands only: October 15 - October 21
Federal and non-Federal lands: October 22 - November 15.

LEGAL ANIMAL: One bull moose.

HUNT STATUS: Up to 30 bulls may be taken east of the Dangerous River and 30 bulls west of the Dangerous River. For hunt status information, contact ADF&G in Yakutat (907-784-3255) or Douglas (907-465-4265), or the USDA Forest Service in Yakutat (907-784-3359 or 907-312-8003).

IF YOU KILL A MOOSE: Successful hunters must return the completed permit report and submit the lower front teeth (on a 5-inch section of jaw) to ADF&G in Douglas or Yakutat, or the USDA Forest Service office in Yakutat:
Hunters who take a moose west of the Dangerous River must report within 24 hours of the kill
Hunters who take a moose east of the Dangerous River must report within 3 days of the kill.
Successful hunters are also asked to provide a photograph of their moose antlers to ADF&G in Douglas or Yakutat, or to send an electronic image to roy.churchwell@alaska.gov

IF YOU DO NOT KILL A MOOSE, OR DO NOT HUNT: You must submit a completed permit report to ADF&G, or report online at http://hunt.alaska.gov, within 15 days of close of season.

IF YOU FAIL TO REPORT AS REQUIRED: Your name may be forwarded to the Alaska Wildlife Troopers for enforcement action.
