Reporting Requirements

  • Successful Hunters
    • Must return the completed hunt report and horns to ADF&G in Douglas or Haines, or to the Skagway Police Dept., within 3 days of kill.
    • Specimens Required: Horns for measuring (must be attached to the skull plate)
  • Unsuccessful Hunters
    Must return the completed hunt report to ADF&G, or report online at hunt.alaska.gov, within 15 days of close of season.
  • Internet Reporting
    If you hunted unsuccessfully or did not hunt, you may report online at http://hunt.alaska.gov

Hunting Conditions

ELIGIBILITY: Alaska resident youth age 10 - 17 ONLY; youth must be accompanied by an Alaska resident 21 years of age or older who holds a valid Alaska hunting license. Hunters must successfully complete the online Mountain Goat Identification Quiz to obtain this permit; see www.quiz.adfg.alaska.gov. Basic Hunter Education Certification is required to goat hunt in the youth only area.

HUNT AREA (RG025): Unit 1D, that portion of Takshanuk Range extending from the northwest saddle of Tukgahgo Mt. to the city of Haines.

SEASON DATES: September 15 - November 15.

LEGAL ANIMAL: One goat of either sex every four regulatory years; however, if you harvest a nanny you will be prohibited from hunting goat in Unit 1D the following year. The taking of nannies with kids is prohibited. The bag limit counts against both the youth and the accompanying adult.

IF YOU KILL A GOAT: Immediately validate your permit by cutting out the month and date of harvest. You must return the completed permit report and submit goat horns for age and sex identification to ADF&G in Douglas or Haines, or to the Skagway Police Dept., within 3 days of kill.

IF YOU DO NOT KILL A GOAT, OR DO NOT HUNT: You must submit a completed hunt report to ADF&G, or report online at http://hunt.alaska.gov, within 15 days of close of season.

IF YOU FAIL TO REPORT AS REQUIRED: You will not be eligible to receive any permits the next regulatory year and you may face additional enforcement action.
