Description

Located near Anchorage, the Alaska State Parks Eklutna Lake Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) trailhead consists of a gravel parking area with minimal amenities. In fall the trailhead routinely gets inundated with hunters and their vehicles. Parking is designed to accommodate approximately 30 vehicles with OHV trailers, which is the most commonly used transportation means for hunting. Actual capacity is slightly higher through creative parking, which creates problems such as blocked access and greatly reduced maneuvering space. On busy days, DPOR staff must direct traffic to maximize parking accommodations.

Current trailer parking capacity limits the number of users able to utilize this area

Purpose

The purpose of this project is to expand parking capacity at the Eklutna Lake OHV trailhead. This project will add 20 truck-and-trailer parking stalls to the existing parking area and install a public emergency phone to support emergency communication and response as the site is outside cell phone range.
