Columbia Spotted Frog Management and Research

Management

Most areas of occurrence in Alaska are federally owned, administered by the USDA Forest Service. These include portions of the Tongass National Forest and Misty Fiords Monument (which are managed as no or low development areas). In Alaska, amphibians are managed by Alaska Department of Fish and Game under statute 16.05.030, in which amphibians are legally included in the definition of "fish." This statute makes it illegal for anyone to "hold, transport or release" any native amphibians without a valid permit.
