Run Forecasts and Harvest Projections for 2019 Alaska Salmon Fisheries and Review of the 2018 Season

(Juneau) — The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) announces the release of the statewide report: Run Forecasts and Harvest Projections for 2019 Alaska Salmon Fisheries and Review of the 2018 Season (PDF 1,038 kB).

Highlights of the 2018 statewide commercial salmon season include harvests of 50.5 million sockeye salmon, mostly from Bristol Bay, and 20.3 million chum salmon, the majority of which were from Southeast Alaska.

The 2019 commercial salmon forecast is for robust harvest of sockeye salmon (41.7 million fish), larger harvest of pink salmon (137.8 million fish) than in 2018, and record harvest of chum salmon (29 million fish). If realized, the 2019 forecast total harvest of 213.2 million salmon would be substantially larger than the 115.7 million salmon harvested during 2018; due to strong projected pink and chum salmon harvests.
