2018 Bristol Bay Sockeye Salmon Salmon Processing Capacity Survey Summary Published

(Juneau) — The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) announces release of the 2018 Bristol Bay Sockeye Salmon Processing Capacity Survey Summary.

The processing capacity survey is an estimate of aggregate processing capacity for the entire season and was sent to the 12 processors that purchased 99% of all sockeye salmon purchased in Bristol Bay during 2017. All 12 of these processors provided survey responses indicating their intended 2018 Bristol Bay sockeye salmon purchases.

Results of this survey indicate the 2018 Bristol Bay total intended purchases of 41.71 million fish is approximately 4.12 million fish (10%) higher than the forecast (PDF 406 kB) harvest of 37.59 million fish. The survey estimated a maximum daily processing capacity of 2.43 million fish per day which could be sustained for approximately 20 days.
