Muskrat (Ondatra zibethicus)

The open season for harvesting muskrats in most of Alaska begins around November 1 with a late September opening in the eastern Interior. The season closes between mid-February and mid-June, depending on the region of the state. The fall and winter season was initiated to encourage the harvest of muskrats before they were lost to “winter kill,” but there is little trapping then.
