Requested Tracking Map
From 9 to 23 March 2020, we received locations for 3 ringed and 7 spotted seals. The ringed seals remained in heavy ice (>80%) and occupied the northeast Chukchi Sea, between Utqiaġvik and Icy Cape, the southern Chukchi Sea, near Hope Basin. All seven spotted seals were generally near the inner-edge of the heavy ice in the central Bering Sea and were distributed between Cape Navarin, Russia and Bristol Bay. During the last two weeks sea ice began to recede north from its maximum near the 100-m isopleth. The seven spotted seals followed the sea ice by moving north and east. Sea ice data are courtesy of the U.S. National Ice Center, dated 23 March 2020 (http://www.natice.noaa.gov/products/daily_products.html).
