Willer-Kash Road Improvements — Mat-Su Valley

Coordinates: 61.79541, -149.86850
Game Management Unit: 14B
Land Manager: Department of Natural Resources (DNR); Division of Forestry

Description

DNR state land and the adjacent ADF&G Willow Mountain Critical Habitat Area provide hunting opportunities for bear in spring, as well as moose and grouse in fall. Many users camp along this corridor while recreating in the surrounding areas. This road system is also used by various recreation groups year-round, including mushers, hikers, berry pickers, snowmobilers, and ATV users.

Potholes embedded in slick mud are common along the road surface
Drainage issues have resulted in sections of standing water

Purpose

Multiple Will-Kash road segments have become impassible due to erosion and rutting caused by inappropriate and heavy use during the wetter periods of the year. No commercial or recreational use is available at this time as a result of this excessive damage. Seriously impacted segments require draining and resurfacing.
